Synopsis
James Hughes (Asa Butterfield) and Hayley Taylor (Cora Clark) are two acting students in London who have started a relationship.
It’s Christmas and they both leave with their respective families.
However, at the last moment, James and Hayley decide to surprise their partner by reuniting with their families. The bad thing is that the same idea ends up driving them apart and Hayley ends up in the mansion of James’ aristocratic father (Alex Jennings) and James in Hayley’s middle-class family.
Critical
A romantic Christmas comedy whose main key is to take the characters out of their context.
This context is also determined in the story by the social difference, generating comic situations around clashes of behaviors, uses, errors, deceptions…
The dysfunctional family, the stereotype and the positive messages typical of the time are used, with overcoming of the traumas and understanding, in an unpretentious, predictable development and with characters with enough personality, between the extravagant and the nice.
Better than other similar Christmas movies.
