England will face Senegal in the Round of 16 of the World Cup on Sunday night in Qatar, but have the two teams played before?
The Group B winners play their first knockout tie on the world stage since the team’s painful semi-final loss to Croatia in 2018.
However, it looks like the Three Lions have put the past behind them after finishing ahead of Iran, USA and Wales.
Meanwhile, Senegal have qualified as runners-up from Group A following their 2-1 win over Ecuador.

Speaking ahead of the game against Senegal, coach Gareth Southgate said: “We have to take one step at a time, the same thing. We talked about it from the start of the tournament.
“Our first objective was to qualify in the group. We knew we had three games to do it.
“There was a lot of noise after our second, but we stayed calm and on track and qualified as well as anyone else.
“But now we are at the most important part of the competition and we also have to get it right.”

Have England ever played against Senegal?
Sunday’s historic game marks the first time the two teams have faced each other.
Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in February this year.
However, they are considered the underdogs in today’s game with Sadio Mane’s Senegal side due to an injury which ruled him out of the entire tournament.
It’s not the first time England have faced a new opponent this year after the team first faced Ivory Coast in March.
Moreover, England’s World Cup opener was also their first game against Iran.
