What Only Superfans Know About Jensen Ackles

Although he worked as a model and actor while in high school and his father was a successful actor, Jensen Ackles’ original plan for a future career had nothing to do with acting. According to a biography on Ackles in Tribute, he originally planned to study sports medicine at Texas Tech University, with the ultimate goal of becoming a physical therapist.

Everything changed for the teenager, his TV Guide bio noted, when he attended an acting workshop and ended up getting signed by an agent there. He moved from Texas to Los Angeles soon after in order to pursue an acting career, embarking on a life of tough auditions and constant rejection.

Her father — whose own acting career dated back to the 1980s and included roles in TV series such as ‘Dallas’, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ and ‘Prison Break’ — had some valuable advice to share. “My dad said to me, to the extent that, like, auditioning and looking for jobs, it was just having the attitude that if you get it, you get it, and if you don’t no, you don’t,” Ackles revealed during a 1998 TV interview. “Not dwelling on a job and just, you know, not sitting by the phone, not caring about it…otherwise, you know, then you’re made for something bigger and better.” »
