UK Netflix Subscribers Can Now Cut Their Streaming Costs By Switching To This Budget Plan

Netflix episodes, movies and documentaries can now be watched by UK residents in a new and cheaper way.

The online streaming company has officially launched its new membership tier, allowing users to view content for the low price of just £4.99 ($5.68) per month. This will save you £11 (around $12) per month compared to the premium membership tier, according to Express.co.uk.

‘Basic With Ads’ is finally available in the UK

This low-cost option on Netflix, known as “Basic With Ads”, was first introduced a month ago. On Thursday, November 3, the company finally made it available to its users around the world.

Those currently using the service need only switch plans to take advantage of the cheapest prices. Of course, it is also open to consumers registering for the first time.

In this ad-supported budget plan, users are not allowed to download movies or TV series and are instead subjected to an average of four to five minutes of commercials per hour. Ads shown before and during episodes will be 15 or 30 seconds long.

During the first launch, many series and movies might not be accessible due to licensing restrictions. If you search for certain titles or browse the home screen, you may see a padlock symbol next to them.

The launch of a new low-cost level is necessary to attract consumers

The fact that Netflix lost customers may be one of the factors that prompted the company to launch a membership tier with lower prices. The company has had a terrible year due to the current cost of living crisis, which caused millions of people to stop using the service.

For this reason, Netflix was forced to reevaluate its pricing approach and come up with something new. All of these are aimed at gaining new subscribers and preventing its current customers from unsubscribing.

The slowdown in subscriber growth observed in previous quarters made this change necessary. Netflix has seen a decline in subscribers in each of the first two quarters of this year. He predicted that he would acquire only one million new customers in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work on Apple TV yet.

Despite the recent release of Netflix’s new ad-supported plan, it is not yet compatible with Apple TV devices, including the third-generation Apple TV 4K.

It looks like Apple TV subscribers who want to take advantage of the lower tier will have to wait, MacRumors reported.

The Basic With Ads plan is accessible on Amazon Fire TV, Android devices, Chromecast with Google TV, game consoles, iOS devices, and a wide variety of smart TVs. However, Netflix has not explained why it is not compatible with Apple TV.
