Synopsis
Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) waits for a boat with Margo Mills (Anya Taylor-Joy) to go to an island where twelve guests will gather to dine on a special menu created by prestigious chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes).
Everything seems idyllic until the dishes follow one another…
Critical
Although it has traces of dark humor, this Mark Mylod film is more drama than comedy shrouded in terror in a haute cuisine setting.
The central axis is the psychological tension between its two main characters: Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.
In the Agatha Christie “10 Negritos” mode, with a storyline and a limited time to emotionally shake the fear of several very different characters, with different motivations, a group of characters find themselves on an island with the key to enjoyment turned into disgust. .
The environment has glamour, refinement, a certain chic pedantry.
It starts well with an approach of a certain originality, but the repeated accumulation of motifs and the presence of somewhat flat characters, without spark, never ceases to tear off their nebulous actions of psychopathy.
