It seems that Yuji Naka didn’t run fast enough to escape the Tokyo District Procuratorate, who arrested the sonic the hedgehog Creator for insider trainingaccording Variety. In January 2020, while Naka was still employed at Square Enix, he allegedly obtained sensitive information about the dragon quest series of games under development. With this information, he allegedly purchased 10,000 shares of the game’s developer, Aiming, before the game was publicly revealed, violating the Financial Instruments and Exchanges Act.
Naka was arrested alongside two other former Square Enix employees who purchased Aiming stock prior to the announcement; it is not known if any of the men ever sold their stock.
The capricious trader imagined Sonic in the late 1980s as a competitor to the Super Mario Games; the blue hedgehog game was released in 1991. Naka left Sega for the American Sega Technical Institute shortly after, citing improper credit for his contribution to the company, before returning home in 1994.
By 2006, Naka had left Sega for good and started his own game company, Prope, which developed games for the Nintendo Wii. A decade later, he joined Square Enix, then exited earlier in 2022 before his eventual arrest. According FortuneNaka participated in the development of a musical game, Balan Wonderworld, at Square Enix, which “was a flop”. He eventually sued Square Enix, claiming he was pulled from development six months before the game was finished.
