Actor Rajkummar Rao recalled when he ran into trouble while auditioning for lead roles in movies. At an event, he said his past rejections were mostly down to his looks. Rajkummar Rao made his screen debut in Rann as a newsreader. He rose to prominence in Dibakar Banerjee’s hit Love Sex Aur Dhokha, which paved his way to Bollywood. He will next be seen in Netflix’s Monica, O My Darling, which will be released on November 11.
While promoting the film, Rajkummar told Indian Today, “There was a time when I could never have auditioned for the role of the hero. I was told to audition for the role of his friend. I know I’m not the most handsome man in the room, but Dibakar Banerjee saw something in me.
Rajkummar also previously shared how he got rejected for ridiculous things related to his looks. While some told him he wasn’t big enough to be a leader, others questioned his build. Someone even rejected him because of the shape of his eyebrows.
Rajkummar Rao was last seen in Hit: The First Case with Sanya Malhotra. It’s just days away from filmmaker Vasant Bala’s black comedy, Monica, O My Darling. In this film, he will co-star with Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte. Produced by Sanjay Routray & Sarita Patil, the film promises a wild ride around love, heartbreak, blackmail and a mysterious murder.
Sharing details about the film, Vasan Bala said earlier in a statement, “I am thrilled for audiences to get a glimpse into the world of Monica O My Darling and be a part of this darkly humored crime mystery. I can’t wait for the audience to see what a fabulous job the cast have done and it’s been a great adventure collaborating with Matchbox Shots who have been absolutely superb and I always look forward to working with Netflix and creating groundbreaking content and worthy of frenzy. »
