Mac DeMarco announces the release of his new album “Five Easy Hot Dogs”

2023 is off to a flying start. The crazy and brilliant Mac DeMarco has just revealed the date and the name of his new instrumental album, “Five Easy Hot Dogs”, which will be released on January 20th.

After sticking to its end-of-year tradition by releasing a cover of a Christmas song, this time the classic It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Meredith Wilson, Mac DeMarco returns at the beginning of the new year with very good news, the release of Five Easy Hot Dogs next January 20.

An inspiring journey

It was during a road trip in 2022 that the Canadian musician, composer and producer recorded his new instrumental album, more than three years after the super Here Comes the Cowboy. DeMarco traveled alone from his hometown of Los Angeles to a remote cabin in Utah. During this inspiring journey, the artist recorded 14 titles corresponding to the cities where he composed them, such as Vancouver 2, Edmonton or Chicago 2.

I stayed longer in some places than others, I knew some from the past, some not so much. I tried to keep things busy all the time. If I didn’t know what was going on in a town, I would walk around until someone recognized me and go from there. I’ve met a lot of interesting people this way, and had a bunch of cool experiences“, he confided in a press release.

He adds that the cabin he ended up in in Utah “Probably could have accommodated about 20 people but instead it was just me weaning myself off nicotine with a bunch of taxidermied animals everywhere. No other humans within about 80 km. Horrible idea. I lasted one night and returned to Los Angeles the next day. When I got home I felt like I had given up on my idea and failed to finish what I was trying to do.

In this same press release, Mac DeMarco ends by saying that “moving, recording and traveling in this way does not allow me to sit down and plan or think about what I intended to do. I never had a sound in mind, a theme or anything, I just started recording. Fortunately, the collection of recordings from this period all shake hands, they have a musical identity present as a whole. I was in it while I was there, and that’s what came out of it, just like that. This record looks like what it feels like to ride like that. I hope you enjoy.
