Jason Momoa Very Excitedly Announces DCU’s Next Announcement

Jason Momoa shared his excitement for the upcoming changes to the DC Universe. Following DC Studios’ restructuring late last year, James Gunn and Peter Safran were named co-CEOs and tasked with rejuvenating the DCU, the chairman of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav, hoping for a more streamlined and curated universe to rival the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. DC Studios is set to announce some of the upcoming projects in the new DCU on an unspecified date this month, with one of the projects set to be a young Superman movie.

Momoa recently attended what appears to be a Conclave at Warner Bros. Discovery and filmed an Instagram story (via The Hollywood handle) where he excitedly shares that he has received some good news.

Following some controversial and monumental changes that have been made at DC Studios, including the exit of Henry Cavill as Superman and the cancellation of wonder woman 3, the future of the DCU is in limbo. There’s been a lot of uncertainty about whether the other current Justice League cast will follow in Cavill’s footsteps, but Momoa’s vibrant reaction suggests he could be part of Gunn and Safran’s plans. In the video, Momoa says:

“I had very good news. Good news with Warner Bros. Amazing. I wish I could tell you, but here it is. Rock [Safran], I like You. james [Gunn], I like You. David [Zaslvav]… In the future. »

How can Jason Momoa fit into the DCU?

Until the impending announcement from DC Studios that will answer many pressing questions about the future of the DCU, little is known about what will be left of the existing DCU films. It has been heavily speculated that the flash, which will be released in June, will serve as the DCU’s soft reboot following its multiverse storyline, which will see Michael Keaton return as Batman. Gunn himself previously communicated the important distinction that the DCU will undergo a “ broad but not general reset, i.e. certain franchises, including Aquaman, could stay in continuity and receive more sequels.

At this point, it’s unclear if Momoa’s Aquaman will be one of the remnants of the SnyderVerse to make it the new DCU. Even if the character survives, Momoa himself could be recast, as was the case with Cavill. Interesting way, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to premiere in December this year, far beyond the flashit is Release. If the latter rushes the supposed reboot as many viewers suspect, it could create a problem for the Aquaman sequel which might see him not exist at all in the new continuity. Considering Momoa’s positive reaction to talks with Gunn, Safran, and Zaslav, it looks like he might just keep his Atlantean role and avoid this potential quagmire altogether.

Another way Momoa could fit into Gunn’s plans would be as DC Comics’ alien bounty hunter Lobo. Audiences have noted Momoa’s striking resemblance to the comic book character, and while a live-action incarnation of the character has eluded the big screen, the new DCU could make room for him, or potentially even an Elseworlds project. Momoa has expressed interest in portraying Lobo, and Gunn has also teased the character, meaning a big-screen introduction is a definite possibility. Regardless of who he plays, it seems extremely likely that Momoa is involved in the DCUs go forward.
