in Nantes, Constellation puts you back on the path to employment

The Constellation association supports 180 parents in the Nantes conurbation whose children have a disability that has a strong impact on family life (autism spectrum disorders, multiple disabilities, mental and behavioral disorders, etc.). Founded in 2019 by a medico-social professional and three mothers concerned by this situation, it is inspired by the Quebec organization L’étoile de Pacho.

Its particularity: to offer support by “expert” parents going through the same difficulties and trained in “peer-helping”. This involves individual meetings, respite, outings or well-being workshops… Next January, the association will launch a new project dedicated to the professional integration of parents, the vast majority of mothers.

Constellation has indeed noticed that the desire to reconnect with a professional life was very present among its seven peer-helpers, working between five and twenty hours a week. “For some, it’s an opportunity to regain a social status and no longer answer ‘I’m a family caregiver’ but ‘I work for an association’ when you ask them what they do”, says Élodie Pillot, one of the founders.

Believe in your skills

Many members have also stopped working for a long period to take care of their child, finding themselves disconnected from the job market. “The first step will be to regain confidence in themselves and their abilities, she continues. Knowing how to manage your child’s schedule or fill out a file for the departmental house for people with disabilities are completely transferable skills! »

Constellation is already planning to create two groups of twelve people for support, first individual then collective, by calling on the resources of the territory. An association will support them, for example, for a digital update, another will allow them to prepare for job interviews or to dress at lower cost.

“Our family assistant will also help these parents find aid and means to keep their children, unfortunately not all of them in school or full-time in an establishment, specifies Élodie Pillot. Our support will take into account this reality, which has been particularly glaring since the start of the school year…”
