After the dark “Consistent Dedication”, the singer from south London releases a new single, “Retributions of an Awful Life”, and announces the release of her EP.
Invited by the Speedy Wunderground label to take over the Boule Noire stage during the Inrocks Festival, her high-pitched guitars, disturbing synths and intense voice ignited the room. Heartworms seduced by broadcasting its first title Consist Dedication – her presence on stage finally convinced the lucky ones present that evening not to let her go anytime soon.
Between post-punk and gothic, at the crossroads between Inteporl and Kraftwerk who would have acquired the vocal presence of PJ Harvey, the Londoner naturally imposed herself. She has just announced the arrival of her EP A Comforting Notion scheduled for March 24 and unveils a new extract, Retributions of an Awful Lifewhich has the fervor and urgency that were already the strength of his first title.
A powerful clip
Directed by Niall Trask (Fat White Family, DC Gore, Working Men’s Club) and Dan Matthews, the clip that accompanies the title represents her with her feet in the mud, in military uniform, as if trying to survive on a battlefield.
She explains: “The lyrics of the song are deeply disturbing, I wanted them to come to life in the action. […] I didn’t want to go for a fancy video with cute dancers or a cute wallpaper smeared with an airbrushed filter – I wanted to soak up new pain, bring punishment to life, fight fears while remaining relentless with my friends by my side. Putting my body through something that I thought was scary just for art… there’s something exhilarating about that.”
