Fabcaro, Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad, the three successors of Uderzo and Goscinny

The comic seriesAsterix will know a new screenwriter on the occasion of the 40th album: Fabcaro, whose gift for the absurd has made the success. This album is scheduled, as is the tradition every odd year, in the fall and more precisely on October 26, 2023, Editions Albert René said on Tuesday December 20.

The title remains a closely guarded secret at this point. The designer does not change, it will be the one Albert Uderzo had designated from the 35th album in 2013, Didier Conrad. The screenwriter René Goscinny, who died in 1977, and the designer Albert Uderzo, who retired in 2013, had only three successors in all and for all.

► Didier Conrad, the only successor to Uderzo

Whether Asterix has already known four screenwriters – Goscinny, then Uderzo, Jean-Yves Ferri and finally Fabcaro – the little Gaul was only drawn by two people. Uderzo first, then Didier Conrad from 2013.

The latter creates several series for The Diary of Spirou in the early 1980s before returning to the classics. He draws the series Kid Lucky in the 1990s and Marsu Kids in the early 2010s, which depict the childhood of Lucky Luke and the Marsupilami, two emblematic heroes of Franco-Belgian comics.

With Jean-Yves Ferri, he draws Asterix among the Picts, Caesar’s Papyrus, Asterix and the Transitalicand The Daughter of Vercingetorix.

► Jean-Yves Ferri, collaborator at “Fluide glacial”

Jean-Yves Ferri was appointed in 2013 by Albert Uderzo, the emblematic designer ofAsterix, to succeed him as screenwriter. Before taking up the prestigious torch, he worked on icy fluid. Jean-Yves Ferri also signed De Gaulle at the beach in 2007, comic strip which was adapted on Arte in 2020. In 2014, he was made a Knight of Arts and Letters.

In an interview at JDDhe tells in 2019 that Albert Uderzo, who died the following year, kept an eye on his creation at 91 years old. “He sees everything, it’s true in absolute terms, but that doesn’t mean that he gives us specific comments on each point. He is confident. »

► Fabcaro, author of “Zai zai zai zai”

Fabcaro (Fabrice Caro in civil status), 49, comic book author and novelist, becomes the fourth screenwriter of the adventures of the irreducible Gaul, after Goscinny, Uderzo and Jean-Yves Ferri. His great success Zai zai zai zai in 2015, recounted the flight of a man prosecuted for having forgotten his loyalty card at a store.

Exhibition: Fabcaro’s absurd humor refreshes Angoulême

“I was a big fan ofAsterix. It’s a great gift for the kid that I was.” rejoiced the screenwriter: “I want to stay true to the specifications even if the word is not very pretty –, or in any case to what makes the charm ofAsterix. With classic ingredients, such as anachronisms, puns or others. And above all, stay true to the characters. »
