Felt, Primal Scream and The Charlatans keyboardist Martin Duffy died on Monday, December 19 at the age of 55.
This Tuesday, December 20 starts with heaviness on the other side of the Channel. After the announcement of the death of singer Terry Hall of The Specials, we learn of the death of keyboardist Martin Duffy.
Known for having been part of the British rock groups Felt from 1985 to 1989, then Primal Scream alongside singer Bobby Gillespie and guitarist Andrew Innes, as well as the brilliant group The Charlatans in the 1990s and 2000s, Martin Duffy leaves behind him a great career.
A special story with The Charlatans
The keyboardist notably saved The Charlatans when one of its founding members, Rob Collins, died in a tragic car accident in August 1996, while recording the album Tellin’ Stories. Martin Duffy thus helped the group to finish the album on the advice of Bobby Gillespie at the beginning of 1997.
The singer of The Charlatans, Tim Burgess, paid tribute to the musician by posting these few words on his Twitter account: “Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul. Martin Duffy stepped in to save The Charlatans when we lost Rob – he played with us at Knebworth and was a real friend. He also toured with me in my solo band – it was a pleasure spending time with him. Have a nice trip Duffy.”
