Céline Ferer and Les Bleues “very happy” after the victory against South Africa

“How do you feel after this first meeting of the World Cup, won against South Africa (40-5)?
We are very happy. We put 40 points and we wanted to make a big start today. We told ourselves to do our own things, to play our game, that’s what we managed to do. We end with one last try (registered by Joanna Grisez)so we’re pretty happy.

After a good start (19-0, 17th), the French team made a lot of mistakes and inaccuracies. How do you explain this long period of uncertainty?
It is true that we are making a big start. Behind we make small hand mistakes, we are a little inside. They take over us, we also have a big team in front. Here, we are in a mythical stadium (Auckland’s Eden Park) maybe a little bit of pressure to be on a magnificent stadium like that. It was the opening match so we had to let go.

“We have the right to have phases of uncertainty, we have to manage to refocus and that’s what we managed to do”

Céline Ferer, captain of the French team

How to achieve a cleaner copy for the next matches of the competition?
We simply have to manage to do 80 minutes at a high level. We have the right to have phases of hesitation, we have to manage to refocus and that’s what we managed to do since, behind, we were able to recover from the advance. So here we are, we have to keep this cool head and lucidity in our game, quite simply.

What effect did it have on you to wear the captain’s armband of Les Bleues for this first match?
The captaincy didn’t change much in my game. I just wanted the team to get a good win today. That’s what we did, we’re happy and we hope to repeat some great victories for the future. »
