Caroline Garcia beaten by Iga Swiatek at the Masters

Caroline Garcia conceded her first defeat in this Masters and the score (6-3, 6-2) is very severe as the response she offered to Iga Swiatek’s tennis during the first set was a superb promotion for the women’s tennis. It’s very simple, for eight games, there were almost only winning moves.

As usual, Garcia attempted aggression from the first exchanges. His very advanced position in return visibly disturbed Swiatek who had to settle for a small 55% of first serves in the initial set.

The Frenchwoman may have made the first break (2-1) by bringing her total of aces over the season to 373 (first in the standings), the world No. 1 was quick to react. A superb short crossed backhand gave him the break (2-2). To the striking power of Garcia, Swiatek opposed the high quality of his movements which allows him to always be well placed.

Garcia faces Kastakina for a place in the semi-finals

Taking advantage of a little waste in the game of Garcia, the one who won Roland-Garros and the US Open took the ascendancy slightly. A double fault from the French gave her the break and she didn’t need to be asked to turn in the lead. Cruel for the Francilienne who, with such a level of play, would probably have taken the set from most players on the circuit.

But Swiatek is definitely apart. She was able to find a solution to all the problems posed by Garcia. And as soon as it dropped a little, like in the second set, she rushed into the breach to get her hands on the match and never let go. With this victory, the Pole is almost in the semi-finals. Garcia, she will have to beat Daria Kasatkina in her last group match to keep a chance of joining the last four.
