A little behind during the first two events of the day (6th in scratch, 8th in the tempo race), Benjamin Thomas ignited the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome to win the silver medal in the omnium on Saturday evening. The French track rider, under contract with Cofidis, first won elimination before playing his all in the final of the points race. It was on the last lap of this last event that he secured the silver medal. He completes a fine collection since he has already been twice world champion (2017 and 2020) and silver in 2019.
Very well placed all day, Ethan Hayter controlled the points race to secure a second world title in a row. Behind the Briton and the Frenchman, the New Zealander Aaron Gate completes the podium.
