Arsenal overpower Tottenham in North London derby

The game: 3-1

After only nine days, it is certainly a little early to talk about the league title. But Arsenal, who outclassed Tottenham this Saturday (3-1), after a pleasant and open derby, confirmed their brilliant start to the season. By having generally mastered this meeting well, despite the equalizer of Harry Kane (31st) and a less successful end of the first period, the Gunners built a significant and convincing success. After falling on Manchester United’s lawn in early September (1-3), Mikel Arteta’s players, guaranteed to finish this 9th day at the top of the standings, sent a strong message to the competition.

Dominating from the start of the game, the Gunners logically opened the scoring in the 20th minute thanks to Thomas Partey author of a sumptuous strike without control following a pass from Ben White. Partey’s shot headed for the top corner and left Hugo Lloris (20′) no chance. Tottenham regained hope following Gabriel’s foul on Richarlison who offered a penalty that Kane converted by shooting hard, in the center of Aaron Ramsdale’s goal (31st). But the teammates of William Saliba, very prominent, continued on the same philosophy, trying to offer play. Four minutes after the break, Gabriel Jesus took advantage of an error by Hugo Lloris to double the bet (49th). The stupid red card received by Emerson Royal, for a sole on Gabriel Martinelli, in the camp of Arsenal (62nd), allowed the Gunners to end the meeting more easily. Granit Xhaka was at the end of an action perfectly launched by Thomas Partey who found Martinelli decisive passer for the Swiss international (67th).

With this 7th success of the season in the Premier League, the Gunners can calmly consider the reception of Liverpool next Sunday. The Reds, 8th before the start of the day with only 9 points (12 less than Arsenal) are having a much more sluggish start.

The player: Gabriel Jesus, clever recruitment

Arrived at Arsenal at the start of the season, the former Manchester City player quickly made his mark in London. This Saturday, he took advantage of a ball from Lloris to score his 5th goal in 8 Championship matches with his new team (49th). He could have scored earlier in the game after torturing the Tottenham defenders, but his shot was denied by Lloris (43rd). He then missed the double by not framing his head on a cross from Saka (53rd). Without being flamboyant, the Brazilian is devilishly effective and is already positioned among the top scorers in the Premier League.

Harry Kane became the top scorer in the London derbies by converting his penalty against Ramsdale. He now has one goal more than Thierry Henry: 44 goals against 43, including 14 in the North London Derby.
